The K16 1.6 MPi petrol engine builds on the strengths of the award winning K16 1.4 MPi engine .Maximum commonality of components has enabled extensive developement of the unique components required for this derivative.

The all aluminium engine retains the through-bolt technology pioneered by the 1.4 K series, but the cylinder block/liner construction is the same for all K, i.e increased bore, to acheive the capacity change .Advanced ultra-lightwieght pistons are used in the 1.8 resulting in reduced second order inertia forces and considerably improved engine refinement .

The ignition and fuel injection system are controlled by a sophisticated Modular Engine Management system (MEMS) common to all K series derivatives. This system allows the engine to meet all current emissions legislation when used in conjunction witha three way catalyic converter in the exhaust system.
